Curriculum
Mawdesley St Peter’s School aims to provide a fun, balanced and broad curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of our pupils. Through our stimulating outdoor and indoor environment we aim to foster each child’s unique potential. This prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life within our diverse society. In addition to all the Curriculum areas mentioned our children are taught to respect and care for each other and their environment, and they are encouraged to take pride in themselves, their work and their school.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCo) is Mrs H Jackson.

Reading and Phonics
Mawdesley St Peter’s does not follow one particular reading scheme. Our reading books are banded and each band consists of a variety of texts from a variety of schemes and publishers including Oxford Reading Tree and Rigby Star.
The Phonics Scheme that we use is called, 'Anima Phonics.' Please click here to visit the Anima Phonic Website. Anima Phonics is validated by The Department for Education.
Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage
Pupils in their first year of school (Reception) follow recommendations set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.
There are seven areas of learning and development which shape our educational programme in Reception. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. Three areas are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. These three areas, the prime areas, are:
Communication and Language
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Children are also supported in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied. The specific areas are:
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
More information about the EYFS can be found by reading the Parents' Guide.
The National Curriculum
Pupils from year 1 upwards, follow the National Curriculum requirements throughout the curriculum. Our Curriculum is truly creative. Annually, we map out the curriculum to ensure it is tailored to the needs of the children in our school. Please see the downloads available.
